Growing up in a small town meant driving was a part of life. Whether it was heading to the grocery store, the movie theater, a restaurant, or school, we always had to hop in the car. I learned to enjoy the beauty of the scenery and appreciate the marvels of the great outdoors. Maybe that’s why the idea of sitting in an office all day has never appealed to me–much the same way people feel about visiting an attorney’s office to discuss their estate planning.
During the early years of my marriage, my husband was in the Air Force, so we relocated frequently. I embraced the opportunity to explore new places, often taking road trips with my children who grew to enjoy the adventures. Even now, my adult daughters eagerly join me on road trips, as traveling has always been a significant part of our lives. In fact, my husband and I just made an impromptu trip to Las Vegas this weekend to enjoy the National Finals Rodeo and have fun shopping at Cowboy Christmas. My daughters were envious that they were not able to join me.
Why I Chose To Be A Mobile Estate Planner
When I decided to become a mobile estate planning attorney, I wasn’t sure what that would look like. I was uncertain if my mobility as an attorney would be a necessary asset. However, I quickly learned through discussions with other attorney groups and experiences with clients that my desire and ability to come to your home and get to know you on a more personal level was a unique and attractive option to many people, especially those with mobility issues themselves.
Not many attorneys are willing to go the extra mile and meet clients in their own homes, but I have found that this sets me apart from other estate planning attorneys. My dedication to creating personalized documents tailored to each client’s unique circumstances is another valuable asset that I offer. There is something uniquely personal about meeting clients in their homes. Sitting around the table or in their living room often transforms what might feel like a sterile legal consultation into a meaningful dialogue.
When I am not riding my horse, I genuinely enjoy sitting down with clients to discover their wants and wishes for their assets and estate after they pass away. Talking about estate planning can be tough, but meeting in the comfort of your own home, on your sofa, with all your documents close at hand, can make it so much easier. These meetings allow me to really get to know you and your wishes on a personal level, creating a more relaxed environment to address such an important topic and determine which foundational documents you need.
My Office on Wheels
I know not everyone enjoys battling traffic on I-10 or Loop 202, but for me, this is my time to decompress and reflect between meetings or drafting documents. My vehicle has become a second office for me where I meditate, brainstorm solutions, and focus on how to best meet my clients’ needs. With my trusty bag of tools always ready to go, I’m just a phone call away.
For my elderly or disabled clients, my mobility and willingness to drive to their home is invaluable. I have mobile notaries and witnesses that travel with me so we can have a signing appointment at your kitchen table and you never have to leave the comfort of your home. I recently visited an elderly client that is not able to leave her home. She was thrilled that I was willing to meet her in her home and she could sit and visit with me in person without trying to find a way to get to my office.
Estate planning doesn’t have to be formal and rigid. I try to make it flexible, personalized and tailored to your unique lifestyle.
Exploring the Metro
The Phoenix metro area is vast, with so many unique and attractive communities. I relish the opportunity to experience all the different regions around the metro as I travel to meet clients in their own neighborhood. Traveling from one side of the metro to another is not a chore for me and is not an inconvenience, but an opportunity to explore and connect.
